Video Analytics today is proving its immense potential in addressing the challenges faced in cities. The technology empowers local authorities to improve personal and public safety, identify traffic congestions, and prevent crimes in towns due to rapid urbanization. Several municipalities and government departments are ensuring a comfortable and safe living environment for everyone by implementing intelligent video analytics systems that enable them to deliver on-time emergency responses and strategize long-term safety regulations. Additionally, in the quagmire of the covid-19 pandemic, video analytics plays a critical role in ensuring public safety and compliance with official guidelines. “Our vision is to make cities better and safer,” begins Andrei Telenkov, CEO of NtechLab. Upholding its vision over the years, NtechLab has pioneered the development of video analytics technologies that help users comprehensively analyze real-time events, create safer environments, and improve operational security and competency of several enterprises.
In 2015, founder Artem Kukharenko, a neural network specialist, was engaged in developing a smartphone application that identified dogs’ breeds from photographs. After being introduced to businessman and tech-investor Alexander Kabakov, who pitched the idea to tune the application to detect human faces, the duo founded NtechLab. Alexander and his partners became the first investors of the company. Within six months, NtechLab developed an innovative facial recognition technology and beat Google in the MegaFace Challenge organized by the University of Washington. Since then, the company has empowered several organizations, businesses, governments, and security service providers to effectively leverage its video analytics technology and foster safe working, living, and learning environments. NtechLab’s AI-powered flagship product, FindFace Multi, has taken several industries by storm with its groundbreaking accuracy and multi-object analytical capabilities.
FindFace Multi takes less than a second to detect faces in videos, search for a match in a database, and reliably recognize the person. The technology also consists of intelligent criteria-based facial search functionalities where it works remarkably well under challenging circumstances, such as a change in the appearance of the person, partially covering the face with masks, low-quality video, and a large distance between the object and camera. FindFace Multi also accurately detects silhouettes of people, recognizes them based on their clothes and body type, even in real-time video streams. On several occasions, the product has also exhibited its ability to ensure timely medical care in emergencies. The system can recognize a falling person on the street and send signals to the nearest rescue service centers. Elaborating more on this, Andrei adds, “Authorities can analyze the data collected from city cameras and identify sections of the roads, for example, that are too dangerous for kids to cross. This analytical capability helps them determine the locations where they need to add a speed bump or a sign to make them safer.”
Video analytics systems help society and businesses to respond to critical incidents in a timely and efficient manner. Our vision is to continue fostering better security, living and business across the globe
Since the platform engages with a vast amount of data, concerns regarding privacy and the misuse of the software may arise. To address this, the platform transforms a person’s face into a digital imprint consisting of several lines of code, making it impossible to restore the original image of the face. For commercial applications, FindFace Multi collects anonymized data regarding age and gender, which can be analyzed to generate valuable insights that businesses utilize to improve their brand communication and customer experience. With such consumer-centric and innovative functionalities, NtechLab has strengthened its reputation as the world’s leading facial recognition company and has established a network of trusted partners who utilize its technology. NtechLab ensures that its facial recognition technology complies strictly with different countries’ local laws and regulations and helps clients efficiently deploy its product. India’s Western Railway, one of its busiest railway networks, has commissioned NtechLab’s video camera featuring its real-time facial recognition technology.
Western Railway deployed NtechLab’s systems at thirty railway stations across western India. The system is utilized for reliably recognizing up to fifty people in a single frame at the busiest sections of the network. NtechLab was also the technology partner of the Russian Pavilion at Expo 2020, which is currently taking place in Dubai. Russian Pavilion will employ facial recognition software to collect data on their visitor numbers, demographic details, and the average length of visit time. To ensure compliance with Covid-19 guidelines, the platform will also notify employees in case of excessive gathering in one area. NtechLab’s algorithm is also integrated into the video analytical system of Moscow city. With the solution, law enforcement authorities can effectively execute real-time facial recognition to identify wanted criminals. The system is also programmed to automatically send an alert to the nearest police officers in case a match is detected. In 2020, over five thousand crimes were solved in the city with the help of NtechLab’s facial recognition software —a report backed by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. Apart from catching criminals, the software is also used to find missing people.
Earlier this month, NtechLab was awarded the G20 Innovation Award for the Best Artificial Intelligence Startup for its groundbreaking technologies. The company has been recognized by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Intelligence Advanced Research Projects Activity (IARPA), and various other organizations several times as a world leader in video analytics. With over 150,000 cameras in twenty countries, NtechLab is en route to revolutionizing the global video surveillance industry while ensuring safety and security everywhere. “The global surveillance community reckons the same—video analytics systems help society and businesses to respond to critical incidents in a timely and efficient manner. Our vision is to continue fostering better security, living and business across the globe,” concludes Andrei.
